GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) is caused by weak muscles called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) that allows acid and bile to flow back from the stomach into the esophagus, creating pain and may cause damage to the lining of the esophagus.
Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication is one of the most common anti-reflux procedures. It is a minimally invasive procedure that restores normal function to the body’s natural reflux barrier (lower esophageal sphincter). Unlike anti-reflux medications, laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication offers permanent relief for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Using minimally invasive techniques, surgeons wrap the upper end of your stomach around the lower end of your esophagus. This strengthens your lower esophageal sphincter (your body’s natural reflux barrier) and prevents stomach acid from spilling into your esophagus.
LINX® is a flexible ring of small magnets placed around the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) during a minimally invasive procedure. The strength of the magnets helps the weak LES close to prevent reflux. When you swallow, LINX opens temporarily to allow food and liquid to pass into the stomach.
